THE ROOM John Peel Session 22nd May 1982
THE ROOM were an astonishingly good live band that always seemed to be overlooked. I was fortunate to seem them in a number of guises up until the mid 1980’s. Formed in late 1979, around the constant of Dave Jackson & Becky Stringer, out of the creative maelstrom that was the post ERICS Liverpool. Championed by PEEL, they always seem to garner critical success, but never manage to get further than late night Radio 1 favouritism. This session is just prior to the release of the first album “Indoor Fireworks” … Soon afterwards they released the wonderful “Things have learnt to walk that ought to crawl” … Still one of my favourite singles. The closest the got to chart success was with the later album “In Evil Hour” which had some tracks produced by Tom Verlaine, after they had opened up for him during his 1984 tour. Later the were to morph into the rockabilly guitar twanged BENNY PROFANE, then again to the DUST & again into Jackson/Stringer concern, DEAD COWBOYS
